Turkana County Demographics

A s one of the largest nomadic communities in Kenya, the Turkana are a Nilotic ethnic community of pastoralists who keep cattle, goats, camels, sheep as well as poultry, and share a deep connection with Lake Turkana

2019 Census 

Turkana County is also home to the Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement and the Kakuma Refugee Camp that hosts over 160,000 refugees from South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Uganda.

According to the Kenya Population and Housing Census (KPHC) 2019, the County’s population stood at 926,976 with the highest concentration in the Turkana West sub-county.
