Getting Electricity

Turkana County is endowed with green energy potential that investors can tap into to power their businesses off the grid. When it comes to on-grid electricity, the Kenya Power Company is the sole distributor of electricity in Kenya. For new connections, one is required to fill Electricity Application Forms online and pay a refundable deposit. One can also follow up on the progress of their application online on the Kenya Power Company website - www.kplc.co.ke.

Power is billed in Kenya Shillings per kilowatt-hour. Other charges in electricity bills include fuel cost charge, 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), Rural Electrification levy charged at 5%, and Energy Regulatory Commission levy charged at 3 Kenya Cents per Kilowatt Hour.

For medium and large-scale investors, Kenya Power Company can provide personalized and customized assistance that is designed to help investors plan the implementation of their investment or expand an already existing business. These medium and large-scale power applications are also processed online through the Investor Power Plan form.
